After graduating from Sydney University in 2001, Prue spent 12 months working in adult orthopaedics where she honed her basic skills as an occupational therapist. Prue has a background of working with children as a swimming instructor and feels it was inevitable that she would work with them in her capacity as an occupational therapist. In 2003 Prue began working at a multidisciplinary private practise on Sydney’s North Shore where she worked with a mixed caseload of adults and children with a variety of diagnoses and therapy needs. Prue worked with this group for 5 years where she built experiences in treatment and management.
Throughout Prue’s time working within this multidisciplinary practise she developed her skills and passion for preschool and school age children. She gained experience and skills treating children within the home, school, preschool or clinic settings. Prue participated in a variety of professional development courses in order to build a base of a number of different treatment approaches for neurology and paediatrics.
This position gave Prue experience in a great variety of diagnoses over the years. Prue provided treatment for children with cerebral palsy, syndromes, developmental delay, coordination and handwriting difficulties.
With the inspiration of her colleagues, Prue developed her passion for treating children with cerebral palsy with a variety of treatment needs from upper limb and fine motor skill development, functional and self-care and equipment needs.
Prue was approached by Debbie Evans to share in her vision to provide premises that were family friendly, disability friendly and to have multiple allied health professional’s onsite to promote sharing of information for our children. In 2008 this partnership with Debbie Evans was realised and Therapies for Kids was launched and has proved successful and is exceeding both Prue and Debbie’s expectations as a complete service model.
Prue continues to be a dynamic therapist who strives for better outcomes for the children and their families. She continues to work passionately with the children, families, carers and educators.
As Therapies for Kids continues to excel additional therapists are expected to join the team.
